IM wanting to start a tank and was wondering is 5-15 gallons too small? I would like to add a few zoas a bta and a few snails and a clownfish pair. Was wondering if 5 gallon is an ok size with a HOB seachem tidal. Thanks

Too small for 2 clowns.

I’d suggest for starting out to have at least 20-40 gallons. Small tanks are challenging to manage and issues happen quickly. You will also want to upgrade quickly and doing so won’t let a tank mature.

The recommendation for a pair of clowns is 20 gallons minimum. I think 15 gallons should be adequate for a pair of clowns if no other fish are added.

To be honest, a lot of people add a pair into a 10 or 13.5 gallons, which I think is a mistake unless your experienced. But 2 clowns in a 5 is a no-go.

HOB filters are not as efficient in salt water as it is in freshwater, so good maintenance habits and regular water changes will be very important in a small tank.

what's the smallest for 2 clowns. or 1
I would agree with 20 gallons. But you won't be able to keep any other fish long term. As the clowns grow, they will become more aggressive. I would rethink clownfish if you can only have a small tank. There are plenty of fun and interesting fish that are suitable for a nano tank.

20-40 isn’t the minimum I would definitely say a 15 gallon is a good size for an anemone and two clowns, but stability will be EXTREMELY difficult to manage, so I would suggest a 40 gallon to start. But if your on a heavy budget go for a 14 gallon biocube, worked for me
