Trying to determine if my crab is molting or if it’s dead. It was not really moving for a day and I saw what looked like a leg fall off. Another crab came up to it and it took off. This morning I got up and it’s out of its shell. I haven’t moved or touched it but the other crabs aren’t eating it. So unsure here since it’s my first go round with crabs.

If that's a hermit hiding without a shell it has outgrown its current shell and needs a new one hard to see in that light but looks like a hermit

When keeping hermits you need alot of spare shells for them to grow into thats just a fraction of the empty shells in the tank

If it's not in a shell and it's just the crab body most likely a molt.

If it's in the shell and crabs are picking at it it's dead.

your photo very hard to tell exactly what you're talking about.

I have about 10 shells in currently for the 3 hermit crabs I have. Only had them in the tank for 4 days

Should I just leave him in there? Kind of surprised they’re not over there cleaning it up
remove it. Not much for them to eat
