Is it normal for the bottom half to be white?

I have a pocillopora coral that looks healthy aside from being white on the lower half. The polyps are still present, and it was like this when I got it.

IMO. Yes. It's where It down not recive light.

My maricultured colony I bought all died on the bottom half where it doesn't have light

It is from shadowing and/or point-source light- although any light source can have issues with this, the point-source LEDs are some of the worst (kessil, Radion, AI, etc.). You will need to get some light down there or else it will end up dying down there... not today or tomorrow or maybe not even in a few months, but it will eventually.

As long as it has polyps, it can come back.

It could just be size. I have no point source lights. Just big corals.

I believe the system it came from uses led. I use a kessil to light my tank. Can I ensure it will grow normally?

Unless you have lighting on the sides of the tank you will likely have some portions of the coral not receive light. It’s the nature of how our tanks are set up with static lighting above the systems.

Can t5 lighting solve the issue? I guess I will just have to deal with the bottom half not doing well.

This is one of the main reasons why people add T5s to their tanks with LEDs.

I keep mostly softies and lps. This is my only sps so I wont make the upgrade just for it.
