i have a Fluval Evo 13.5. Has been running for 2 months. And this brown/red algae has been taking over the rocks and coral. My torch isn’t too happy. What can I do?

Yes, this is normal. It happens to all new tank. The ugly stage! It will go away on its own but you can siphon the sand if you want.

yes, normal. add cleanup crew to help. make sure your skimmer is operating properly. Add an algae turf scrubber if you like to further control nitrates and phosphates. Manually remove any large patches, especially any that is directly interfering with your corals.

It’s pretty normal, my tank is now one year old but I remember after like 3-4 months after I started, it was so ugly and full of such algae. That time I was having big crisis about this aquarium when I wasn’t sure I want to have it anymore. After some time everything has cleared up itself and I’m caring my tank more then ever :)

Honestly, Pods will help keep LR and your substrate clean, check out BRS NYC Reef Feast, 2022?,, Ryan’s talk about testing new tanks, testing different ways, pods made a huge difference. (I’m expecting my 3rd shipment of Pods from Reefs by Steele tomorrow to prepare for tank upgrade.) my tangs constantly eat the big pods off the rocks!
Hang in there, keep in mind, this is a process, always evolving, Don’t expect overnight results.
