So, I recently cycled my new tank. (Dr. Tim's and raw shrimp) I had started to stock a little at a time. As of right now I have a dottyback, blue damsel and flame hawk in there along with a cuc. So, since I did not use lights during cycle I don't really have any algae except a little red dusting circles. I decided to throw in another live shrimp to supplement my cuc. Needless to say my fish lived the idea. My neon dottybacks belly is huge. Lol. Like, Templeton in Charlotte's Web big. Can they hurt them selves? Should I pull the shrimp out already? It's only been in there am hour.

Old post, but I'm also curious about this phenomenon. I've had my neon dottyback for 2-3 years now and its belly has always been big. I have always assumed it's because it feeds on worms and other things in the rocks all the time in addition to getting fed with the other fish.

I'll get a pic up later of mine.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
