I'm setting up my refugium and I am wondering whether or not the price of eco-system miracle mud is worth it? I was going to do mud and cheato... Any opinions on this?

i don't use it but that is just me. if you use live sand in there with some live rubble rock it will be good. but i would like to see what other people have to say .

My opinion is no.

But then I fell the same way about live rock also. :xd:

A forum somewhere tested miracle mud and found it to be silica sand with high levels of iron.

IME play sand will grow macros just fine. And the macros will reduce nitrates and phosphates to 0 while suncuming carbon dioixde and returning oxygen. And filter out heavy ions and other toxins as well.

I other words the macros do the work not the sand.

I also dose iron by dissolving a ferris gluconate (spelling) tablet in a 12oz soda bottle with tap water. the adding a capfull each week to my 10, 20, 29, and 55g tanks.

my .02

I had it when I first started and ended up taking the two bags full out of my sump and tossing it in the garbage. It was PITA to keep clean. I would just go with sand.

the mud as iron in to which is food for algea and mangroves. i have been happy using it and get very good growth from both my algea and mangroves but i think that is one of the main reasons for it as well as having food for pods.

i have used it and i could say i had so many pods compaired to not using it. i also was able to grow some different types of caluprea that almost rooted. i have never done the sand thing but i do like a nice rubble area in my sump for sponge growth.

anyone run the figi mud..just wondering.
