Is my Goni a goner?

Howdy. I tried this in the general section of the forum but got zero responses so I thought id try it here.

Hi, looking for some thoughts about my Goniastrea. It's been in my tank about 3 weeks and yesterday I moved it from the rocks to the frag rack. Only then did I notice this as this side was against the rock and not visible. As you can see its structural base has receded quite a bit. Looks like some sort of decay. The rest of the frag looks pretty decent. Any thoughts? is it a goner or wait and see?

I’d wait and see, I’m not an expert but maybe a coral dip might help it heal.

I dipped in coral rx but maybe something like Revive would be more useful in this case.

Isn’t this frag just a small piece of a bigger one that was cut off? Shouldn’t it have some rock showing when you just get it since it was cut? It should grow over it. Was it really completely covered when you got it?

Just the same but I haven't done anything to it yet.

It's hard to see but this side was just like the left and right sides as you look at the pic, so the 'flesh' has receded where the stony area was.

I see. It still looks healthy enough for me. I’ve had corals take more time to get settled and start growing. Changes in light and other things might make it recede a little when it’s new. From what I’ve experienced at least.
