Got this branching hammer 3 days ago, it was green with purple head. Expanded slightly when first put in but it never settled fully. Parameters are all ok except mag is slightly high (1590). Is this brown jelly disease? We have a frogspawn that’s been in the tank 1 month and it’s thriving. I’ve dipped the hammer so far and moved it down for low light low flow.

250L tank
KH 8-9
PH 8.1
Ca 445

Hmmmmmm.
Doesn't look that good, and the head on the right looks kind of slimy. If it gets covered in brown jelly then I would treat the tank with Cipro. At this point I'm not convinced that is the issue. Key an eye on it.

I might take a toothbrush to that plug and remove whatever is on it? Not sure what those splotches are but if they can be scrubbed off I would start there.

Thanks, I did think it looked suspicious, I will keep an eye on it. When the lights are on its colour is great and does extend slightly but seems like it’s not quite happy.

Do you mean the pink splotches? That’s the putty I used, seems to have leaked onto the plug!

Hard to tell in the picture but just looks like it's in a lot with a reseeding flesh line. As long as you don't see brown jelly and your tank is stable it should bounce back. I've had sever hammers come back with 0 flesh lines! I'd see if it stabilizes and then re plug it to clean it up

I’m hoping that’s the case! Glad to hear it’s possible for it to recover. It is still new and only been in the tank a few days, just seems very stressed at the moment.
