I want to calculate tank turnover and I know I can use a bucket and count the time for water to fill it but I’m not going to to that right now.

I want to know if my math makes sense. Even if it’s a little off, it will give me a very good idea of tank turnover.

So here it is :
  • Head pressure : 4 feet in the stand and tank + 4 x 90 degree elbows at 1 foot per elbow = 8 feet of head pressure
  • 8 feet of head pressure = 1150 gph (see graph below) at the pump maximum speed
  • Max speed of pump after calibration = 10/12 lights on the dial or 83%
  • 83% Vectra x 1150 GPH = 954,5 GPH
  • Regular running setting on Vectra = 5/12 lights or 41,7%
  • 954,5 GPH x 41,7% = 398 GPH
  • 398 GPH / 145 gallons tank + sump = 2,7 turnover

From Ecotech. I drew a line at approximately 8 feet and result looks like 1150 GPH.

Am I right ?

Thanks

Your math seems right but I don’t believe an elbow is equal to 1’ of head height.
That’s what I read online. https://support.ecotechmarine.com/hc/en-us/articles/215339608-How-do-I-calculate-head-pressure-#:~:text=Every vertical foot of distance,1 foot of head pressure.

How much do you think ?

eta : here they say 0.5 head pressure with 1 inch pipes (like I have)

I also have an online UV to account for (I counted it as 2 x 90 degree elbows)

It’s still around 8-9 feet of head pressure.

If you're running UV then I believe you should be adjusting the GPH to match the rating for the unit. For example my 25w AquaUV should have about 800gph-1200gph running through it as seen here in the instruction manual.
