Hi All,
I have my sump in my basement. My tank is 220 gal and my sump is 60gal. (I have 3 x Nero7 in the tank so no need for alot of return power)
Im pumping about 10 feet up and about 15 to the side with couple of elbows.
I have been using VectraL2 but its always on full and barely making it.

Im thinking about the MD-100RLT but it draws a lot of power any my backup battery will not last long.
Will MD-55RLT be enough?

Thanks!

I would go with either the 70 or 100 RLT. Here is the pump curve for the 70. At 10 ft with a couple of 90 degree bends and 20 ft of piping you're still looking at 1000 gph. 4.5 times turnover is fine for filter/temp control.

I wouldn't worry too much about battery backup except for tank power heads (very important to keep flow there of course). For long term outage filtration/temp you're looking at portable generator for that size set up.

Good luck!

Ah you asked specifically about the 55. Here is that curve. It's looking about 750 gph with piping/bends. That's 3.5x turnover. Also good, so that would work but as the system ages you will have some fouling build up which will cause low flow. Could be minimal and you could maximize flow by keep nozzle and piping low head loss (no high pressure nozzles).

I would go with the 55. It is plenty strong and the step up in power consumption with the 70 is significant. Your return piping is likely to limit you to 600-800 gph anyway unless you have more than a 1" return.

I have a 300 gallon display and 75 gallon sump in the basement. I pump up about 15 ft vertical and 10 ft horizontal in 1" piping. I use the 70RLT and get plenty of flow.

There is a strategy where the Jebao makes sense. You could buy two or three for less than one Iwaki or Vectren. And if it fails you just swap it out. It is just a pump after all and yes, we consider it the beating heart of our filtration if you will...but it's still just a pump to move water.

I got my hands on a brand new 55-RLT for $100 I dont think I can beat that :)

Put PanWorld and BlueLine on your list too. This might increase your availability.

Try and use the Iwaki 55 if you can. There is a big jump to the next one in electricity.

If you get a PanWorld, try and get the 150 since it is also lower wattage than the 200. The BlueLine 55 is the same model (I think).

Also, when you see these for sale used, get a few extras. You can often get them for pretty cheap and they are super reliable. Most PanWorld, Iwaki and Blueline are so similar that they can plumb in to replace one another if you just use a few feet of flex line.

Oops, saw that you got a 55. Good choice.

Battery backup is not going to work well on that or any pump that can handle that kind of head pressure. Just make sure that you have a heater in the tank and some flow up on the battery backup and you should be all set. You will need a generator to run the whole tank for much of an outage.

Iwaki MD-100RLT

I ran Iwaki pumps at my LFS and they were quiet and dependable and easy to service. When you get one, get a spare impeller right away. I had one fail and had to wait 8 days for a new one

I have 200AH baterry backup which should run it for couple of hours.

Probably because AC pumps will run for 20 + years reliably. OP's pump is in the basement, so noise isn't a primary issue. DC pumps don't handle head pressure nearly as well as their AC counterparts, especially when comparing to Iwaki. My last build was all DC pumps for noise. This build has extra sound deadening in the cabinet and reliable Iwakis that I don't have to tinker with every few months, they just do what I expect them to, which is pump water.

You do not mention anything about the plumbing on the return pump. I am going to assume its 1" pipe, since that is what most people would have. If you find the 55 isn't enough, you may want to consider upsizing to 1 1/2" pipe (obviously you would need adapters on both ends). I have used PanWorld pumps on my basement sumps for decades (they last for decades unlike most of the disposables today). When I upsize to 1 1/2" flex from 1" I reliably see a 20% increase in flow. Something to keep in mind.
