Is my rock nem dying?

So I’ve had this guy for about a month. I was out of town for 16 days. In between trips on day 8 I made it back home to do a water change and my nitrates were skyrocketing at 57ppm per Hanna. He was in the front and moved to the back and left this mucus looking stuff behind. Here’s what he looks like in the back now. If he’s dying is there any way to breathe life back into him? Thanks!

wouldn’t be worried. i’ve had RFA’s in my tank (have 7-8) move and leave the gunk behind. just blow it up into your socks or suck it out the tank

Do they ever wedge themselves at the bottom of the tank? I have not checked PAR in my tanks yet and I’m not sure what is optimal for them, LPS, and softies.

I just tested my nitrates and they’re at 27.5ppm. I’ll do a 30% water change too.

Do they ever wedge themselves at the bottom of the tank? I have not checked PAR in my tanks yet and I’m not sure what is optimal for them, LPS, and softies.

they do. i have two that are on my sandbed because they moved there. they will move until they’re comfortable, meaning if light is too much or little they will move until finding that spot. same goes for flow

I have 5 on my sandbed, 1 half in the light/half in a shaded cave next to a rock, and another that likes to burrow under the rock it lives next to when I do a water change. Most of mine are stationary now, but the shaded one is a wanderer and will pick up and move whenever it pleases.

I've never noticed one personally, but mine cruise in the sandbad so it'd be hard to see plus I have sand sifters (goby, conch, nassarius) that would probably keep me from noticing much, too.
