Again, though, doing what is normal in the ocean is not necessarily best in a reef tank. Nitrate and phosphate, for example are often undetectable with our kits when testing clean ocean water on real reefs.

It's a mistake we made for years in early reefing: matching seawater nitrate and phosphate as a goal, for example.

I'd hate to make that mistake again for pH or other parameters.
