Is the condition dead?
After removing the stone from my mouth, I started to see the bone.

It looks like it’s alive. It would turn white or the flesh would melt if it was dead.

It’s a little rough around the edges - literally and figuratively - but it can recover. I have one that came in a little rough I think because the collectors cut the rock so close to the coral that some flesh had been damaged. Placing the coral in lower light and flow plus feeding occasionally (at most 1-2 times week) with refrigerated food like arcti-pods seems to have built it back up over ~2 months.
