Is there a siphon with a "squeeze ball" that doesn't break?

I haven't had much luck with these kind of siphons. Today I was trying to do a water change and couldn't get any suction. Took it apart and tried to get it going and nothing. I've had others in the past where the seal breaks around the ball.

Is there a set up people here like to use or should I just get used to drinking tank water?

I imagined putting a tee with a shut off valve, use the siphon once the water gets going out off the valve, now all the bad water is not going through the siphon ball.

I'm currently using a siphon ball (until it breaks), but have previously used a junky old AC return pump from a Biocube to start the siphon. Works great unless you're cleaning sand and need the gravel tube.

Can't you just start the siphon the old fashioned way?

I just dip it in the tank, then tip the end up, filling up the hose, thumb on the end then tube back in release thumb, viola.

Ive had one a year now. Let me see if I can find it, it was cheap and on Amazon. Never once had an issue. Sometimes it works too well and fills fast!

It just takes a little practice. Start of with simething nasty tasting like gasoline and you'll most likely learn faster, I know I did :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:
