I am so over this Jebao pump, but I still refuse to spend the money on overpriced Echotech MP's 😡

I have two of the Jebao DMP-10 circ pumps, one seems to work well enough, but the other has had nothing but problems. I always have a problem getting the dry side and the wet side aligned so the pump actually works. I have found that when trying to connect the two sides, I have to turn the pump power down all the way to 30% (the lowest) and then maybe it connects and runs, then I can turn up the power.

Over the weekend, I took both pumps apart and cleaned them in vinegar. Now, the pump I have that has always given me a problem is running backwards! Yes, it's sucking water in the front, and spitting it out the sides of the wet side.

Has anyone ever seen this before? I searched, and really couldn't find a similar situation.

I know on AC pumps there's a mechanism that forces the prop to spin in the right direction on startup, but I don't think that's true on DC pumps. I believe DC pumps are dictated by the voltage polarity, but I have no idea how the polarity would suddenly change.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate any help I can get; thanks in advance!

Can't help with the running backward issue, that's a strange one. As far as getting the two sides connected if I'm reading correctly your trying to do it while the pump is turned on? I can not align my dmp or vortechs unless the pump is turned off.
 
+1 To the above comment, you need to align them when they are off. I use the GMP (which i think is just a updated controller) and i never have issues getting them to work.

I have tried connecting them when they are off, and when they are on. Doing it when they are on helps me slide the wet side around until it hits the sweet spot where they will connect and the pump starts running. I have almost zero luck connecting either of my two DMP's when they are turned off.

And, as far as the running backwards thing, I can get the two sides connected, turn the power off, turn the power back on, and the pump still runs backwards. This is all of a sudden after a cleaning the other day. Before that, I had trouble getting it connected, but it never ran backwards like this.

Can you connect it to the other controller to see if it still runs backwards? It will at least determine if its the pump or control unit. It's odd you connect them while running, mine bounce all over the place trying it that way.
Yes, mine bounce around like that too, but then they hit that sweet spot where they run smoothly. I'll try it again with the power off, but when I do that, I have a hard time getting the two sides to align at all, but maybe that's the best way to do it.

I have not tried switching the wet sides from pump to pump, but I'll give that a try.

I was doing a bit of research on this out of curiosity and apparently with these types of pumps there's usually a stopper tab that if the propellor spins backwards it's supposed to hit a little tab - on startup - and bounce off it to go the other way. The tab is supposed to be on the housing. If the tab is worn down or broken, it won't hit and it'll spin backwards.

Not sure if this is true, but just from what I saw online. Maybe try re-seating the housing, or swap with the other pump, see if that might be it?

My understanding is that's how AC powered pumps work, but DC powered pumps like the DMP's should spin based on polarity.

Right or wrong, I swapped my wet sides and turn the pumps on/off like 6 times rapidly, and one of those times it started up and ran in the right direction. I haven't turned it off since lol!
