I was told this was a Randalls goby at lfs but I look one up and they look totally different. I guess my main concern is it a shrimp goby because I wanted him to pair with my tiger pistol shrimp.

That’s an Amblyeleotris wheeleri. The Wheeler’s Prawn/Shrimp Goby. Much easier to get hold of than an Amblyeleotris randalli.

If I may ask does the shrimp being a decent bit smaller than the goby delay the pairing?

Honestly, I don’t think it makes a difference. Introduce them into the same side of the tank and hope is the best way to get a pairing.
