I think it is a montipora, I cannot tell if it is alive or not.

Yes, it's a monti (maybe xfactor). Looks alive since the polyps are out, but it might be bleached. Did you just get it?

No, actually purchased from local Petco about 75 days ago. Its looked like that since I got it.
They have a frag tank that is moderate at best with a ton of frags.
When they sit too long or start to look weak they discount to get them out. The mgr. told me she thought it was dead til she noticed a couple polyps.
Its been in quaratine since an is ready for display tank. I wasn't sure if those were all polyps now or the skeleton.

Its severely bleached. Corals are not supposed to be white aside from the tips or edges. I would not expect petcobto have healthy fish let alone corals.

Is there anything I can do for this coral?
I thought bleaching had to do with too much light?
Just noticed this evening that this cap looks like it has gotten larger.
 

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
