My bird’s nest appears to be rotting from the base and turning green. There also a spot where some weird hair is growing out of it. I did some research and it looks like it’s green boring algae but I’m not sure. Is fragging the only way to fix this?

It does look like algae growing on dead skeleton. The coral will not usually regrow over this area... and if it does, it will take a long time. Fragging is fine, but I would wait until the coral is super healthy and growing again since it looks like the tissue necrosis stopped.

Boring algae I believe is just a label .............I don't think it has actually been identified as algae. It may be more microbial in nature.

I've only seen it on acropora and it kills the coral from the inside out. The coral will darken and be stressed for months and then when the skin peels the skeleton is light yellow to green. It isn't stark white like if a coral was to RTN.

Doesn't look like ostreobium to me, just looks like turf taking over skeleton from recessed tissue
