So I just moved into a new place 3 months ago and I notice my electric bill has gone up. Of course to blame is central air and heating. But besides that is a usage of ~1000 kwh per month s lot for a 3 bedroom house? I've only lived on my own for 2 years now so I am getting use to "saving energy" I also have 3 nano aquariums which arent helping the electricity. My bill altogether comes to be around $150 for electric.

It's not obscene, and you have fairly low rates. Some place get socked with tiered rates the more you use, others use "smart meters" where they charge you more at a certain time of day. Where I am, the kwh rate is 20 cents which is on the higher side.

Even nano tank can eat up a chunk of electric, especially heating it if where you are is cold.

Ways to save would be get a killawatt meter, its like 20 bucks and can measure watts used or kwh used by any item(s). LED household light bulbs can save a good bit of money if you have lights you leave on a lot. TVs, fridges, microwaves use relatively little.

I aim for energy efficient everything on my tanks now. But heating is the killer for me. Even my 40g breeder is running a 200 watt heater nearly 24/4 which adds up to about 140 kwh.

$150 is a good bill. Summer in Texas with pool and A/C my bill will run $350 or more. (no kids) Normal bill is about $200.

That is an average bill for me. $0.16446 KWH...usually running under 1000 KW per month. Small 2 bedroom house, wife, electric stove, electric water heater, electric space heater, electric blanket, dehumidifier in basement.
