I had two clownfish die this week. One lodged itself in a cave and another got stuck on the back of a power head. Now I notice my pink spotted goby is acting lethargic, not eating much, has clamped fins most of the time and became a bit dull. A closer look shows he has some sort of dots on him. There’s something wrong with him I’m just not sure what. My water parameters have been normal. The tank is an IM 15 that has been up and running for two months now.

Just a heads up: Gobies and Wrasses are notoriously sensitive to copper medication. If they come down with Ich, I strongly recommend using TTM (Tank Transfer Method) instead of chemical treatments. >

The setup is simple: just a heater and an air stone in each tank. Use fresh saltwater for every transfer. In my experience, the spots usually fall off within 2-3 days. You can keep feeding them normally during the TTM process to maintain their strength. It's much safer than risking copper toxicity with these sensitive species.

Yes, that is an issue with ionic copper treatments, but we recommend amine-chelated copper products; Coppersafe or Copper Power. Wrasses and gobies tolerate amine chelated copper quite well.

I don’t recommend TTM here. It is more stressful moving the fish tank to tank, ammonia can build up fast in the small tanks, and it only works for ich. Amyloodinium (velvet) and flukes are not controlled. Finally, if TTM is used on fish from an infected tank, you8 would need another tank to house the fish for 60 days after the TTM because the original tank would still have reproductive tomont stages in the tank.
