What in the world is this fish? I have never seen or heard of anything anywhere near this the person working at the store at the time said it was a type of mandarin but I have been misinformed by people there before so I am skeptical (sorry if the photos are low quality)

Any ideas?

I would not recommend getting it then. I have some other oddball easier fish or inverts I could recommend if you were looking for suggestions.
Actually that would be great, I am still looking to get another fish.

Fish:
2x baby ocellarus clowns >1.5"
1x baby yellow banded possum wrasse around 2"

Inverts:
6x some type of large blue hermit crabs
1x blue legger hermit crab
6x nassarius snails
6x turbo snails
1x (Maybe "rainbow"?) bubble tip anemone
1x skunk cleaner shrimp
2x tiny baby hitchhiker green porcelain crabs

And I am hoping to get 5x sexy shrimp and 2x pom pom crabs in the near future
As I said I have a 15 gallon and it is mainly based around inverts

I don’t want to sound negative. But it’s the perfect example of buying something on impulse. You don’t know what it is. Don’t know for sure what it’s diet. Or how big or aggressive can it get. Good looking fish. I hope it works out!

Sorry i don’t think you understood, I saw this at a fish store and thought it was cool but didn’t know what it was so I asked for an ID. I would never just randomly buy something without knowing what it is, I wasn’t even thinking of buying it.

I don’t want to sound negative. But I’m not sure why pet stores sell things they don’t know anything about. They don’t know what it is. Don’t know the diet or behavior. Don’t know how big it’s going to get. Whether it’s reef safe or not. Good looking fish. Hope it works out for who ever buys it.
