I picked this tank up on a local aquarium forum for $20.00! I currently have a high tech planted tank, so I figured this would be a great start for saltwater. For $20 I got the following items:
28 Gallon JBJ Cube & Stand
2x Maxijet 1200 Return Pumps
1x Maxijet 900 Return Pump
Current Sunpod 150W Metal Halide fixture
Reefkeeper 2 Controller
Temperature Probe
pH Probe (Needed to be replaced)
Stealth Heater (Will be replaced)
UPS Battery Backup
DIY ATO system (a little too janky for me)
New container of Chemi-Pure
New bag of Purigen
Test kits, etc.
The tank was pretty gross when I got it. It looked like it had sat half full for a while, so I took it home and washed it out as best as I could. I also took apart both pumps and cleaned them up. Then I filled the tank up with a water and vinegar mixture to get any build up off. I then did some research on saltwater tanks because I had no idea what the heck I was doing. These are the purchases I made after research.
Aqua Illumination Prime ($100 of CL)
New pH Probe
Hydor Koralia 565 Powerhead
15 lbs of Dry Aragonite Special Grade Reef Sand
20 lbs of Dry Pukani Rock
New ATO System
1.5 Gallons of Kalkwasser
Things I need:
New heater
Water
I'll be getting my water from the local university's aquaculture center. They have filtered sea water that everyone usually uses to start up tanks because its free! I'm trying to take my time with this so I don't get in over my head so I've been doing a little bit here and there. I have been working on a scape with my rock and wanted to get some opinions on it. Also if there is anything else I need please let me know!
