JC’s Aquatop 40 - upgrades??

I have had my tank for 4 months now, everything seems to be going well and corals seem happy and growing, I did have am issue with ich in the tank that killed most of my fish so now I have a quarantine tank. I was looking into upgrades for my system.

Option 1: moving chamber things around
1. Skimmer - upgrade to a octo 90 or a aquamaxx hob 1.5??

2. by upgrading to a hangnon back skimmer I can upgrade my back chambers, currently I have:
- mechanical filter on inlet (Sponge)
- Skimmer on the second
- chemical and biological on the third
- UV filtration system and heater on the third.
I was thunking to install my HOB skimmer on the first chamber along with my mechanical, maybe building a canister for a sock filter and active carbon on bottom of canister, Then I can hang on the hob skimmer and the inlet/outlet should be after the sock filter. Use second chamber build also a canister for chemical filtration and as i have removed carbon and chemical from my third chamber I can use the space to build a refugium on top of my biological filter.

Option 2. Buying a HOB refugium

1. Keeping everything as it is and install a refugium on the back.


question, how do I help my system get rid of all tha algae on the sand/glass??

Any more ideas/upgrades I can do will be much apreciated

The best way to get rid of the algae on the glass is with more trochus snails and a Tunze scraper. I don't know what your water parameters are to be able to offer a suggestion on whether you'll benefit from a refugium or not.
