Just got my Dmp10 from Ali express. My old Nero 3 died but before it did my flow setting on it would say it was doing around 4000-4500 litres per hour. I’ve got a 40 gallon cube and it seemed to be doing alright.

Now with the DMP10, it claims it’s max flow is 5000 litres per hour, but when I’ve got it on it’s lowest setting (30%), all my corals are getting whipped around. Am I missing something with this?

5000 litres is 1320 gph, so 1320 gph divided by 40 gallons is 33x turnover, which is pretty strong, especially if its a one way linear flow. But 33x is not overkill, my tank runs at higher turnover rate.

It might sound crazy, but try adding another powerhead on the opposite side of the tank, have them aimed towards each other so the flow bounces and creates random flow patters. This will be better for your corals, you'll be able to create that 'back and forth' movement from the corals.

You should be ok. It's overkill for a 20g cube but a 40g should be fine around 60-70%
