I simply cannot find a reliable aquarium heater based on reviews. The available controllers also seem to lack reliability, particularly the thermocouple. I found this:
Johnson Controls A421ABJ-02C Johnson Controls A421ABJ-02C Digital Thermostat Control Unit. Basically regulates a 120 VAC outlet similar to other controllers. Available with one or two power cords. Priced similarly to aquarium controllers, but commercial quality. Has anyone tried this to control or set an upper limit for an aquarium heater? While I plan on a controller on the display tank, this is for a couple of quarantine tanks in another room.

Thanks, I'll look into the Ranco. I've ordered a couple of the Johnson Controls models for use on two quarantine tanks (coral/inverts and fish) and I'll post more once installed and running.

I don't like that the probe isn't replaceable. If it starts to rust you'll be SOL. +1 on the Ranco or Inkbird.

I’ve been running that Johnson controls controller for a couple years. Works great, commercial quality control product. I’ll note that I put silicone at the thermocouple/wire junction just in case.

I had a cheapo controller that the probe started rusting so I cleaned off the rust and coated the whole thing in silicone. Been good for a year so far.

Glad to hear that, thanks.
