Jorvet CO2 media question

I am running jorvet media, but it is not turning purple when I am sure it is exhausted by my ph readings. When I change it out, my readings go up right away. Has anyone else had this issue?

Could it be that it starts working again when I change it out because it is changing the air flow around the media when I change it out?

Check if you media get wet. Do you have any system to recirculate air that comes from your skimmer? Or Do you put some water at bottom of your container. I had the same issue when I was using a system to reuse air coming from the skimmer and it wetted my media. That made to stop working and never change the color.

I have air coming from outside, so I have been adding a teaspoon of water to the bottom of the container. I was using a standard DI canister, but I today I tried drilling out the top and removing the cloth from the bottom and using metal screen instead to see if that improves airflow. My controller shows it working at first, but then it steadily drops off without changing color I wonder if it is an airflow issue.

On your next change, don't put water to the bottom to see if you media change color

I use a modified humidifier that I made out of a glass storage jar which I run 1 line from the ambient environment (I ran a line into my attic), and back out again to the scrubber. I usually fill the glass jar with water right under the level of the exit to the scrubber. This allows for some humid air to hit the CO2 scrubber, but not too much where you are going to ruin the media. The media does require a certain level of humidity for the reaction to take place and if you are not providing that, you will probably not be getting any kind of noticeable color change. The purple not only shows when it's exhausted, but it also is an indicator that the reaction is working correctly. This type of media is often used by vets to scrub air given to animals under anesthesia.
