I’m going to start a build thread here so all my information is in one place. I have been out of the hobby for about five years now. I have a JBJ 28 gallon nano cube that I want to get going while I build my big tank. It has two pumps in it I believe they would be the stock ones it has a UV sterilizer which I’m sure will need a new bulb. I know I want to put xr15 g5 blue lights on it. I will put a Vortech mp10 in it. At this point I’m not sure what I will do for a heater, skimmer, or an ATO. This will be a mixed reef I know that for sure. I am not sure what else I am missing I would love any suggestions on what skimmer I could use on this tank. And what to put in the media basket thank you for any help

JBJ Makes a skimmer for it. Also, if you get the Wifi LED hood, it grows corals nicely. I used to have a JBJ 28g before I upgraded.

So last weekend had my first set back. My wife and moved to our new house Labor Day weekend and while moving I grabbed my RO unit and it ended up in the garage at the new house. This is what happens when your RODI unit freezes

The good news is there is supposed to be a new one in one of the 3 boxes being delivered tomorrow from BRS. So now that I figured out how to post pictures I will do some updating on this thread this weekend with some pictures

Let me give you guys a bit of my background in the hobby before we get on to the build. I started in the hobby with a 75 gallon DT with a 40 gallon DIY sump about 6 years ago. It was a mixed reef and was very successful until I found the carpet around the tank was wet. The sump had developed a leak. Being in Montana there was no quick fix not like I could run to the LFS and get a new sump.so I ended up giving all my coral and fish to my buddy that has a 180. After that had happened I was upset and lost interest for about 4 years. My buddy’s tank crashed shortly after I had given him everything so we both have been out of the hobby. Just recently he started setting his tank back up which got me interested again. I had Botton this JBJ nano cube about four years ago from a LFS 3 hours from where I live End it has been sitting in my garage ever since. So I figured why not get it going while I build my 220 gallon tank. Here’s a few pictures of my old system

So it was Christmas at my house two months in a row. Now that I have the majority of my equipment, this weekend I will get the new RO unit hooked up and fill the tank with RO water to make sure there are no leaks and the pumps work. Here are a few pictures and one of what the tank looks like now

I got the new RODI unit plumbed in and hooked up . Im really pleased with the water pressure as our last house was 29 PSI without the booster pump. The first picture of the gauge is without the pump and the second one is with the pump running

So last weekend I filled the tank up to leak test it. That went good no leaks but this tank has 2 return pumps and one of the doesn’t work. So I have been looking at pumps and I found one on in tank aquatics that looks good but I have never heard of them. I am hoping one of you can give me some insight on them, experience with them good or bad? Thank you for any suggestions!!!!

Have you tried calling JBJ? I used one for years and they were good about selling me replacement parts. I have a biocube now and between the two there isn’t much change. They’re both pretty good tanks.

So I received the rest of my equipment for the tank today. Now I will order my rock tomorrow and it sounds like it will take about 2 weeks to get it. I decided to go with KP aquatics for my rock. I wanted to go with Tampa bay saltwater but not sure when that would happen if ever. I thought about going with dry rock but decided not to as that has its own challenges, and I love the creepy Crawley‘s you get with live rock. Here is a pic of what I received today and I will post more pics this weekend when I get everything put on the tank

Ok so today I spent all day getting the tank set up. Tonight I will be filling the tank up with salt water as I ordered live rock (40lbs) from KP aquatics and I’m not sure if it will be here this week or the week after. So I want to be ready for it. So I’m going to attach some pics of the final setup mind you I still have some wire management to do but please let me know what you guys think? Don’t hesitate speak what’s on your mind and what you would have done differently. With that being said I put the RMS mount for the radions on the side of the tank as there is no room in the back of the tank and don’t mind the look of it, and since I already bought it thought I should use it rather then look for a new way to mount the lights
