Day 01 - New Hope

After to much Youtube and not knowing about R2R, i started my setup
  • 200 LBS of Instant Ocean Reef Salt for Aquariums

  • 60 LBS of CaribSea Special Grade Reef Sand

  1. i got the water in the tank
  2. dechlorinated the water
  3. dropped an old powerhead in the aquarium for 12 hours
  4. Check salinity level - ( got it correct on the first try)
  5. add 60lbs of Live Sand ( CaribSea Special Grade)
  6. let the powerhead and wave makers run

Day 02 - Dark are Days before the Light

The tank was too cloudy so i couldn't do much work. So i put in a double head wave maker ($23)
and unpack all the Ioot and started reading the manuals ( i was a sleep after page 3)

Day 3 - I Can See Again

The water cleared out and now i started setting up 1 of the 2 Canister filter - The Oase BioMaster Thermo 600
i pick the Oase BioMaster Thermo 600 first since it has an integrated heater (need to get the water to 76-77 degrees).

For the Oase Cansiter Filter i used the spray bar pointing a little up so there will be good surface agitation
I also connect the Jebao Eco SOW-4 on the same side point down to help with water circulation

Day 04 - Master Can You Hear Me

The filter is working and i got the 2 wavemaker working to but i have questions, and then i found R2R
so i posted my question and started this story.

here is my questions on day 04

i am very new to the Reef and Saltwater Aquarium. I wanted some advice/help about creating a good flow so in the future i can put create a Reef tank
My setup (black Friday was a good day) -
  • 75 gallon tank
  • Fluval FX4
  • Oase Biomaster Thermo 600
  • 1 wavemaker Jebao SOW-4 (at the moment
I have put in water and got the salinity to a good level, and just put in the live sand. Rocks are next in a few weeks, the design would be 2 rock towers in the meddle of the tank with a gap between them. i am thinking of setting the flow with both water outputs pointing up and put 3 wavemakers ( see pic below)
the idea is that the water will meet in the middle and go down the center and back around

if anyone can give me input on this idea or if there any suggestion how to redo the flow (i also was thinking that the Oase output could point straight down), i want to make it so the reef would have a flow that would moves with the waves

Thank you

Day 16 - Returns and Refunds

I returned the FX4 - i think its overkill.
I also returned the SunSun 304B - it was too loud (but for $97 it was a good try).

i ordered the SunSun HW-3000 and will see how loud it is. the Oase Biomaster 600 is what i am comparing the noice too.

we will see

Dec 31 2020 - Meet The Fam

Its been 2 weeks since the water change. "Blue Cake" (Blue Damsel) is doing great.

When I picked up the Live Water, I pre-purchased 2 mated Clownfish and one small Blue Tang. Since "Blue Cake" is doing great I am picking then up tomorrow.

Next up if everything is is going good -

1. 20% water change
2. My fist reef frag (I think that is the correct way of saying that)

Happy New Year Dear Readers
See you next Year when the Adventure Continues

Jan 4 2021 - Happy New Year - Brown Algae

So i returned "Blue Cake" since he was too aggressive for my tank, and picked up the 2 Clowfish, the Hippo Tang is not here yet

Out of the blue, i got brown algae - i think its a good sign
BrownSpots11.jpg
BrownSpots22.jpg

but since i know very little, but i do have some common knowledge. I know that most algae uses the light for energy.
I am changing my lights to run 2 times a day (since i do not have any corals yet) .

Feeding Time 7am-9am
View Time 17:00- 20:00

hope this works
