The tank was too cloudy so i couldn't do much work. So i put in a double head wave maker ($23)
and unpack all the Ioot and started reading the manuals ( i was a sleep after page 3)
The water cleared out and now i started setting up 1 of the 2 Canister filter - The Oase BioMaster Thermo 600
i pick the Oase BioMaster Thermo 600 first since it has an integrated heater (need to get the water to 76-77 degrees).
For the Oase Cansiter Filter i used the spray bar pointing a little up so there will be good surface agitation
I also connect the Jebao Eco SOW-4 on the same side point down to help with water circulation
The filter is working and i got the 2 wavemaker working to but i have questions, and then i found R2R
so i posted my question and started this story.
here is my questions on day 04
i am very new to the Reef and Saltwater Aquarium. I wanted some advice/help about creating a good flow so in the future i can put create a Reef tank
My setup (black Friday was a good day) -
75 gallon tank
Fluval FX4
Oase Biomaster Thermo 600
1 wavemaker Jebao SOW-4 (at the moment
I have put in water and got the salinity to a good level, and just put in the live sand. Rocks are next in a few weeks, the design would be 2 rock towers in the meddle of the tank with a gap between them. i am thinking of setting the flow with both water outputs pointing up and put 3 wavemakers ( see pic below)
the idea is that the water will meet in the middle and go down the center and back around
if anyone can give me input on this idea or if there any suggestion how to redo the flow (i also was thinking that the Oase output could point straight down), i want to make it so the reef would have a flow that would moves with the waves
Week 4 - The guys at Reef Geeks (https://reefgeeksofchicago.com/) help me alot ( if you are in the north Chicago area there worth taking a look - tell them Gee (code name not my real name) sent you)
With there help I did a 55% water change, with Live water and had a small fish jump in the water (Blue Damsel) so they let me keep it
week 4.5 - The Blue Damsel is doing great kids named it "Blue Cake"
for the fist day he/she was hiding but then was going all over then tank and looks like he is playing with my kids
Water are doing good - now looking to build aquarium reservoir to hold RODI water ( any ideas would be great)
Its been 2 weeks since the water change. "Blue Cake" (Blue Damsel) is doing great.
When I picked up the Live Water, I pre-purchased 2 mated Clownfish and one small Blue Tang. Since "Blue Cake" is doing great I am picking then up tomorrow.
Next up if everything is is going good -
1. 20% water change
2. My fist reef frag (I think that is the correct way of saying that)
Happy New Year Dear Readers
See you next Year when the Adventure Continues
So i returned "Blue Cake" since he was too aggressive for my tank, and picked up the 2 Clowfish, the Hippo Tang is not here yet
Out of the blue, i got brown algae - i think its a good sign
but since i know very little, but i do have some common knowledge. I know that most algae uses the light for energy.
I am changing my lights to run 2 times a day (since i do not have any corals yet) .
