I’m still currently only running the uv sterilizer and a protein skimmer. The skimmer has really helped with nutrients and since I set this tank up I’ve only done 1 water change which is insane. I need to take the 5 minutes it’ll take to glue a barbed 90 to a new union attached to some hose that I can swap out with the main overflow drain to use displacement for water changes. As soon as this is done and set up I’ll post pics and do a lot more/quicker water changes. I’m also currently only using 4 of the 6 bulbs as I haven’t replaced the ballast for the last two bulbs in the T5 fixture.

Anyone else with a lot of experience that has been able to start a tank so soon kind of like this?

Im not a bare bottom guy, but i had the same algae on my 75, got a starry blenny and an urchin, and it cleared up. But im running a fuge and skim kinda wet. Thanks coming along though. Wish i had a whole garage for activities!

This is my first barebottom tank but if I can grow coraline algae on the bottom like I can on the sides I think I’ll love it ha. Thankfully the algae is pretty taken care of after I added some clean up crew. I’m running my skimmer wet as well right now and hope to have the fuge up this next shift off for me. Having a garage is nice and all but mine is always packed full of stuff, hopefully I can fix that as well. I’d be ashamed to share a picture of it lol.

That happens, glad things ate turning around

Yes it does and me too honestly. Just really hoping bubble algae doesn’t start showing up but I pretty much won that battle in the last tank so I’m ready. Do you have a tank build I can check out? Not sure how to look it up.

Little update time. I’ve been preparing for my child and haven’t had a chance to do much else other then feeding, dosing, & water changes. Still haven’t set up my apex for this tank. My son was born 10/24 and thankfully the wife’s in-laws are in for a week to help us get in the swing of things but mainly just to hold and love him as much as possible before they head back to Charleston. The corals are doing great even though my dosings slip occasionally. I have a friend I helped get in the hobby about 6 yeas ago getting out and he just hooked me up with most of his coral and a beautiful male Japanese swallowtail angel. But enough talking here’s some pics.

Finally got my apex completely set up, I’m ashamed to post a picture of all the cords haha. Finally set up my alk and Calc dosers and ATO as well. I upgraded my reef octopus 110int to a regal 200int. This has really helped as I’m guessing the 110 was underpowered as it would just foam everywhere. Not overflow it was just very thick dark foam. Have t had the issue with the 200. With the tank automated now and much more consistency, I’ll be hitting up a few friends with my sps and be stocking the tank. Not sure if I want to do this slow or just all at once. Other then all of this I’ve traded for a few more corals and got a free yellow tang from a friend who crashed their tank.

It’s been awhile since I posted sorry. Not much has been going on. I’m just getting over the flu and just feeling like crap for a few weeks before that. Haven’t done a water change in a month but sps are happy and still growing. My return pump randomly turned off and I mistakenly had my temp probe in the sump so I didn’t find out till probably the next day and my DT temp had gotten down to 65. Added in a 3rd 300watt heater and the tank slowly heated back up. I put the temp probe in my DT and added a heater as well. I also plan on upgrading my return to so I can plumb in a remote fuge and a 4’ frag tank. I’m hoping to have all that done by this summer though.
