I pull those nasty MFs with tweezers when I see them. They creep me out

Even if you remove them, if you have 5 you can see, you have many you can't.

Fire worms are uncommon...

are you sure it's not a bristle worm? Those guys are good to have and even if you pulled all 5, you have tons more you can't see if you have 5.

I have tongs that I used to use to feed my eels before I went to hand feeding them. I just wait for them to come out enough and come at them from the top and clamp and pull

If you counted 5 then you probably have 20, enough to occupy the rest of your counting digits.

I have never had this problem but I hope you get them under control.

They eat debris and moving around among the rock like little toothbrushes :p

Eat: decaying matter, fish food, fish poop... all on the menu.

Honestly depending on the species because I have seen other people whose bristle worms go out of control and take over a tank. But in my experience (at least the ones I have) I rarely saw them and if I do they stay small. I think they actually help by eating the extra food I put into the tank.
