new reefer here, anyone with a redsea that can shed some light- I have searched the forums, and watched some BRS videos

filled my RS 170E 45gal last night with RODI, after sand and SW. I have a reefwave 25 on low, and turned on my skimmer (just to see how it all works). I put the filter sponge where directed.
I am now awaiting for the water to clear up, its been about 12hrs.
My questions:

Do i need any other filtration this early on to help clear up my water? - ie floss, filter sock? I know carbon is for organics so planning on holding off.
Do i need to worry about the sand swirling around and clogging my skimmer, re circulation pumps - i plan on rinsing my reefwave after water pristine.

Anyother reocmmendations for 170 first time install appreciated.

What you have going on is particulates in the water.

Any new sand needs to be washed, washed, washed, washed and washed some more or you put it in your tank and get a milk shake, That is fine sediment suspended in the water. Try cleaning your filter sponge but I bet that will not be enough.

Having a filter sock and decent flow through it should clean out the particulates in good time.

From what I hear, you got a nice system. I hope it works well for you. Good luck.
