Just got some coral in bad shape.

These coral came from a friend. The branching hammer appears to have one head already to far gone. The other is likely not going to survive. The candy canes are receding so far that only a hint of green and purple remain inside each head. The skeleton is covered in green film algae. Any advice on saving any of these 3?

Oh I figured as much. I did a dip on the canes and I'm just waiting to see if the hammer jellies up so it can go right to the can. They are in a low flow 60 par area. Either way all I can do is monitor and see what happens. My stats tested a bit high today as well.

And phosphate was .09 for some reason. May have to change my gfo soon. I guess I'll see what happens.

that alkalinity is super high, any reason for that? I would still go slowly and only use a little gfo, .09 isnt bad and low phosphates are worse than high imo. Candy can looks like it can pull through, hammer might as well i have seen them come back from that bad but is is a very low chance. Dont knock yourself if they dont, wouldnt be your problem. good point to consider with other torches in the tank, bjd can kill the rest of that hammer and spread to torches easy so it is something to consider

They never showed signs of bjd. He had them under some viparspectras on 100 about 10 inches from the top. That's likely about 700 par. The bleached out and retracted. As far as the candy canes, they were over grown with algae and I think it smothered them. My quarantine tank doesn't have proper lighting it's pretty much just a fish/ pod breeding ground at this point.

Dosing pump went bad and over shot. It was at a 13.7 and I have been bringing it down slowly with 10% water changes ever 2 days. I'm afraid to drop it rapidly. I try to stay at 10dkh

I might wait a day and weak iodine dip.
Lower light and see what takes.

I'm always afraid to peroxide wash. I killed a trumpet back when I first started reefing adding a little to my tank to deal with an algae issue. God the money I wasted back then lol

The algae will take over a weakened coral quickly…

With heavy care, I think the hammer is salvageable, I just lost my head (looked similar to that) after almost a year of back and forth. I forgot to top off my ATO for a few days and I think that high salinity did it in since it wasn’t 100% healthy

Till there is flesh there is hope. Having said that I would take it as a present if they recover.

Looks like coral that was affected by temperature (either too warm or cold).
Keep them under LOW light preferably blue and give them up to 72 hours.
If you see color starting to poke out, there is a chance. If full skeleton and starting to brown- likely done.

Was there cool or heat packs packed with the coral when shipped?
Were they acclimated to at least salinity prior to imntroduction ?
