Just got my neptune apex unit that I had overnighted. The main unit has rattling pieces tumbling inside so put it right back in the box and took some pics and video. Also the probes have residue on them like dried salt or white crusty powder. Is this normal? I can't imagine I would have been sent a used unit. I just dropped over $800 for this which was a huge hit for me. Contacted seller and Neptune to see what they have to say. Anyone else experience anything like this? What a way to start the weekend. ugh!

There are these little plastic circles inside the apex which I believe attach to the swivel mount. Sounds like one of those might be knocked loose and rattling around in there.

Definitely shouldn't be any residue. Perhaps it was a return, then sold as new.

Yes. I don’t think I ordered a refurbished or used item off the website. Already sent pics a videos to their support. So much for my happy reefing weekend. Guess I’ll be needing a drink instead. :-/

So its going back and replacement will be sent out. No happy reefing this weekend. They also said that the residue on the probes is normal and they almost all come like that because of the solution in the caps. The security tape was intact on the box so it was new and it seems the LED logo came loose and must have fallen back into the unit. =(

The storage solution for the probes is a salt solution. Some of it may have leaked and dried.

Yeah, the white residue is normal- its the little bit of storage solution that got out of the rubber seal and evaporated. Bummer about the rattling though!

Hopefully I’ll have my apex next week. Can anyone share pictures of their Neptune apex set up? I have a Red Sea 350 and wondering how others arrange their components.

Yes, some salt creep around the rubber probe cap is quite normal and not a problem at all as long as the probe tip has not dried out. Stuff rattling around .... that doesn’t sound so good.

That looks awesome!

Thanks!

The top LHS and RHS are just perfect for mounting the DOS units. If the RSR 350 sump is similar, and you run DOS, just be careful not to mount them too high - you need a little room to drop them down onto the screw mounts. They also protrude fairly deep, so be careful not to mount other equipment too far back.

How big is your tank? Those are a lot of lights. The Red Sea I got is like 75 display and came with two AI Hydra HD 26s. I wonder if that is enough considering I want a mixed reef with some easier sps.

It’s a 180 gallon. You might want to get 1 more hydra 26 hd

Another light isn't in my budget lol.

Regarding my apex, The supplier isn't open on the weekends so now have to wait for them to process my new apex unit on Monday and won't get till after that. This sucks!!! Just threw out like $50 bucks on overnight shipping to get a defective unit and have to send it back. Could have used that money on something else. so disappointed with this experience.
