So I was wondering, how many people just have there rock stacked only? And how many people have it fixed in some way, whether glue, putty, zip ties, rods, etc?

I like the ability to remove some rock from the tank, as it makes it easier to frag. Also, a benefit of having sections of rock separate from other sections is for people starting a reef tank up is when the uglies come, and you end up with algae or god knows what other stuff growing on the rock, you can take it out and brush it off in a bucket of saltwater with a toothbrush.

Loose rocks that you can pull out let you do things like pick one up-- shoot one or two Aptasia with Joe's Juice-- and put it right back into the tank. Problem solved. Or maybe just scrub a problem 'algae rock' with a toothbrush from outside the tank, and drop it back in. So generally, I like loose rocks.

Glued. Four separate modules, each small enough to remove individually if needed, but that fit together so it just looks like two large islands. Prior tanks it seemed like I would always get a rockslide in the evening when doing water change etc and then spend half the night trying to fix it. To me, totally worth the extra effort up front.

I just stack so that fragging or maintenance is easier.

Imo a stable, glued rock structure is one of the the important things to starting a successful reef! Beginners do beginner things…..

I glued my last one, but did not go as big or high in the big tank. In addition, the rock was massive this time around, so its only a couple of pieces. The only thing glued is the shelf to the counter weight rock.
