Kalk addition

You could always mix Kalk in a container and just dose that?
Yes Ive definitely thought about that but currently only have one dos so then I wouldn’t be dosing either alk or calcium along with kalk at this concentration

I added 10 teaspoons in ato which is 10g. So 1 tea per g for medium consumption to start out. I dropped my alk to 26ml and calcium to 28ml. With being at half potency of kalk I’m assuming I wpuldnt cut my 2 part directly in half correct? I’ll definitely be testing every day for a week. My ato should last about 6-7 days

At 7 days of usage, you are delivering 10/7 = 1.4 gallons per day.

That half potent kalk is equivalent to 0.8 dKh per day per 100 gallons, and equivalent to 57 mL of the alk two part.

Way too much if you keep using the two part.

You mean because of a pH effect on demand?
I’m more concerned about Alk getting too high since he’ll be doing both. That’s what I’ve been doing this week - throttle back my CaRx (dosing) since kalk is already adding Alk/Ca.

I can continue to drop the 2 part. System is 175g

mind posting a picture of the tank just for my curiosity? I am sitting here comparing your dosing numbers to my current 54G and previous 125G tank.
Only half the rock scape and not a ton of corals

Since we calculated the replacement amount, and if anything, higher pH will boost demand, rising alk seems unlikely if the dose is appropriate. :)

Ok, makes a little more sense.
fairly lite coral load. Lots of room to grow!
Definitely. Got 6 more acros coming tmr. Put a fish order in the other day. And starting to cook rest of rock to add to middle and right side in a few weeks. Things are growing one of new torches already splitting and dragon soul that survived old tank double splitting a head right now.

Very cool, early stages of a tank can be fun. My new tank has only been up 11W and pushing more toward SPS with some LPS.

I am ready for the next round of SPS additions.
Yes it can. Wanting to go heavy sps with some LPS sprinkled in with gonis torches and some chalices.

Speaking of ato with kalk, kinda off topic but does anyone know why I can’t put my ato on auto in my apex. I thought it used to be like that but want to put it on auto incase my ph gets too high. Currently just set on

If running Kalk in the ATO make sure the container is fairly sealed up, Especially if you plan to have it cover 7 days. When exposed to air it is supposed to loose the PH effect. When saturated and stored it will make a film across the surface blocking the air.

Our tanks sounds like they will be very similar in stocking.

I can't help with the ATO with Apex. I run old school JBJ ATO units.

Sorry, I'm not an APEX user. But I did dose kalk on my ATO for 20 years. :)

Right — I’ve always struggled with the last part “if the dose is appropriate” ;)

So I would just pick one method as primary and supplement as “appropriate”. What I did on my other tank: switched to kalk exclusively and used 2-part for fine-grained control. That’s what I’ll recommend for the OP - switch this around.
