Anyone using a kalk stirrer? Is there any benefit to using a reactor or stirrer over just adding kalk to your auto top off? I've always added kalk to my ato and used a dosing pump to add it to the tank. I have am aqua medic kalk stirrer 1000 that I never even took out of the box. I bought it a couple of years ago. I'm thinking I might want to set it up on my 90gal.

Stirrer all the way... I've got a Deltec KM500S now, but I've had several different types of reactors in the past. IMO, stirrers are much better than the reactors that use some sort of pump to mix the solution. They continually stir the kalk at the bottom of the reactor which will prevent it from not mixing well over time.D

Ditto on the Deltec. I've run a MRC with a magnetic stir bar and a GEO with the MJ600. Nothing beats the Deltec Stir bar design! I run a KM500 and just picked up a KM500S at MACNA to replace the GEO as well.

I use a GEO reactor with a MJ1200 for a mixing pump. The down side is once a year or so, I have to replace the impellar due to wear and tear. However, at $15 for the replacement from a Local Fish Store, it is one of the cheaper expenses in this hobby.

As for the functionality, once the solution is mixed to saturation, about pH 12, then it doesn't really matter how you get there.
