I'm running T5 and LED combo over my 250dd. I'm using 48" T5's. You could go 60". The LEDs I just did are from RapidLED. COB arrays. Basically like 4 Kessils (actinic only). Cost me less than $300 for all the LED. I'll get pics for you later tonight when I get home, if you'd like.
Yes, pictures, please. You can message them to me.

Thanks.

Kev

As most of us know, the frag tank and the QT should have the same lighting as the DT. So I have a 24" and a 36" ATI T5 fixture already. Not opposed to T5's. Just the bulb cost...

OK, overflows - to cut out and drill or not?

So I spoke with someone who is trustworthy, but I'm looking for more input.

This is probably my last tank. I am planning on shadow-boxing the rear of the tank to give the tank real depth. This is a DD with the corner overflows. I personally don't like the corner overflows - ugly and take up space. I have ghost overflows and was going to cut out the corner overflows and drill the sides/install the ghost overflows in the side glass on the ends of the tank.

My spouse has MS and is afraid she might fall into the exposed overflows and break something, creating a serious issue for the plumbing.

I considered doing some woodwork and just covering the ends.

Opinions? Solutions? Feel free to discuss.

What's the main reason behind this? I can see it for the frag tank to keep the coral lighting consistent, but why the QT?

Well, as you can tell it’s been a long time and this is now a zombie threaded that I’m resurrecting. New title!

The old tank was discarded as well as everything in my system as my wife had talked me out of it. I was miserable about it for several years and now I’m back in the hobby!

This post is a placeholder as there are no pictures yet.

However, the new build planned is a 72 x 48 x 28 freestanding tank with center overflow.

The new tank will be acrylic, and will be plumbed for an oceans motion six way to provide circulation in the tank without anything unsightly hanging on the outside walls. This will be a closed loop system for circulation.

The 8 inch granite shelf around the edges still planned.

The lighting over the display tank and the frag tank will be Phillips.

Hang out and check in occasionally, I’ll update it as things happen.

How about adding a Link here to your new build, just in case anyone happens by this old one?
