Keeping Same Wrasse Together

Dr. Reef sent me an extra Exquisite Wrasse. I've read not to keep the same wrasses together, is that accurate? Can I keep these two together? Is there a way to tell if one is male/female? Thank you.

Unfortunately both look to be male, keeping them together entirely depends on your system’s size. I’ve had male variants of the same species cohabitate well but identical males rarely works unless the system is huge (mine is a Red Sea S-700 5 foot tank and I have several “pairs” of wrasses but there is a clear male/female - I’ve had identical males not get along in a system of this size before).

Thank you for the quick answer. I have a 5 ft tank. I guess I'm going to have to see if I can re-home it. Or move it to the 20 gallon frag tank, but wondering if the tank will be too small. Currently it is just a pair of Clownfishes.

If I’m honest, due to how much these fish swim I wouldn’t recommend it. My exquisitus is incredibly active in my 5 foot tank, although he only uses maybe half the tank.

It looks like a Vanuatu variant - a lot of the time they don’t have the red saddles unless fully displaying.
