How do you guys keep interest in the hobby and your reef tank??

My interest in the reef tank hobby has sadly gone down...

Rewind to May 2017. All I could think about was reef tanks. I was constantly looking at gear, reading reviews, and contemplating methods in which I would be keeping the tank. I was on r2r daily. Then 2018 was a year of adding coral, fish, killing coral, and going through the growing pains of a new reef tank. I was constantly tweaking the tank trying new things and changing the equipment to found what worked best. My interest in the hobby was still extremely high.

Fast forward to 2019... the tank is running on autopilot. I didn’t know what a stable reef tank was till now. I really don’t do much at all and the tank runs amazing. Corals are growing (really no room for any more), fish are fat, happy, and established. I have (in my opinion) some of the best equipment the industry can offer. I’m not going to say I miss the constant struggle/issues or constant tinkering with equipment but it kept me more involved with my tank.

I have no desire to change equipment or upgrade at the moment. I do desire unique corals but with the lack of space I am limited on what I can purchase


My question is....

How do you keep interest in the hobby? What keeps you motivated to keep reefing?

All about adding new stuff to learn about, be it equipment, fish, corals. I find my favorite thing about it is getting something new and having to learn all interactions it will have in or on my tank. I also love when someone sees it and is so impressed they want one of their own. Nothing like helping a new guy find his way and being a teacher for him

Go online and get a new friend who is into reefs. Drama will usually follow after you add a new person into your life.

Frag tank for those corals u want

In setting one up that gives you the preparation and everything else u enjoyed in 2017 and 2018 about the hobby

I know what u speak of once u get to auto pilot it’s kinda like a moving painting on your wall until a problem happens but if the equipment is chosen right it might take awhile for that to happen

Definitely time for an BIG upgrade in tank size. Or plumb a second frag tank togther in your garage or ? Haha But until then, please post some pics of your current set up!!!!!!!

For me my tank is a large living piece of art. If you have nothing to do to your tank, just sit in front of it, relax, and watch the fish.

a new build is out of the question at the moment but i did start a frag tank last year tied into my display. i enjoy the tank but i guess i could say im less interested these days
