Hi, I have a zoa frag and the other day, I saw an asterina eating it. I still want to keep it though and I don’t want to get a harlequin. Would putting the zoa in a cage like this temporarily (1-2 months) be okay? I cut a couple 1 mm holes.

Well the cup isn’t in the water, it’s on the surface. (The rim isn’t touching the water) Could asterinas still get inside?

Would there be any harm in trying though?

Why not just pull out the asterina lol
There’s way too many. At night, I can count at least 50, (16 gallon aquarium btw), and pulling them off is inefficient. I think I’ll try the cage, the zoas aren’t that expensive.

It’s not too bad. I had asterina eating my zoas and decided they had to go. At night just yoink as many as you can. After a week or so you’ll be down to very low numbers. I still see one here or there and I’ll remove it

Alright I’ll give it a shot. I have found that if I scrape the glass clean, no asterinas go on the glass, so maybe I can just put the zoa on a frag rack in the middle of the glass? Or are they attracted to the smell of the zoas?

My lights are off soon, so I’ll give ithe plucking a shot today. I’ll try to temporarily give them back to the lfs this weekend
