Hi, I am looking for new lights where the display portion of my tank is 48 L x10 wide x 12 h (water line to top of sand). Currently I have 2 black boxes. I mostly have mushrooms, zoas, duncans, candy cane etc. I currently have 2 black boxes on top. I like the shimmer of Kessil's. Given how shallow my tank is I am thinking A80's about 4" above the water line and near or at full intensity. I believe I would need 2 or maybe 3 if I get too much shadows.

If you're using them just for the purpose of shimmer, id do three evenly spaced out over the tank :)

Thanks, mr crab. Are a80's the appropriate strength for this tank with 3 across? Or should I be looking at another configuration given that the tank is shallow?
Given that it's a shallow and narrow tank, three across should suffice. Again as long as you're using them just for the shimmer effect :) space them every 16" apart

Are you thinking about replacing the black boxes with the A80s or supplementing the black boxes with the A80s. If you're replacing the black boxes, the A160s would be a better Kessil option on a budget. Three would be a minimum.

I apologize, I completely misunderstood this post. I thought you were going to add the A80's with your black boxes....The A80's won't be able to stand alone. If you want to completely replace the black boxes I would do the A160 or A360's depended on what kinds of corals you are keeping.

Been pushing 4 a80's with 2 t5's over a 42" long 110 gallon since may.

Been getting it down and has the perfect shimmer.
