Kessil H380 Fan Replacement?

Recently my Kessil H380 light started turning off a few minutes after it was turned on. After cleaning and inspecting I found that the internal fan was not running. It appears the fan is causing the issue as I setup a test with an external fan blowing air on the light which kept the light running without issue. I emailed Kessil customer service several weeks ago about the fan but no response as of today.

Has anyone replaced the fan in a Kessil H380? I tried searching for the Model number (F126025SL) and found several similar fans but with different model numbers and I dont know which fans would be compatible. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

is the fan hard to spin? or does it spin freely? If it's hard to spin, the impeller shaft may just need a good cleaning and greasing. I've cleaned and re-greased computer fans that have stopped running and the continued to work for years afterwords. I use a heavy duty automotive wheel bearing grease. But 3in1 oil works good as well Otherwise it doesn't appear that this fan is readily available. Just a few used ones posted online.

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately the fan is not hard to spin at all so my guess is the fan motor is shot.

Take this with a grain of salt as I do not have a kessil to look at, however from what I can see in your photo it appears to be a standard 3 pin pwm fan, like those used in computers. Assuming you can find a replacement that is the same measurement/size fan, it should be as simple as removing the old, installing the new, and plugging the 3 pin plug right were you unplugged the other.

This fan appears to be the same size (60mmx60mmx25mm) and is MUCH higher quality than the silverstone everflow fan. I would give this guy a shot if it was me, on the plus side it should be SILENT as noctua fans are the gold standard in pc building

Again, I have not done this in person, however I work on computers for a living and this would be my first try in replacing the fan. As well, amazon has an amazing return policy so if it doesnt work, send it back

Very good advice as long as the volts and amps match up a CPU fan would work great

I believe you will need this aswell (3 Pin-Mini-Fan-Adapter-Cable). on the H380 I have it is a JST connector and most fans are a pwm. My light is doing the same thing yours is, I just ordered the adapter so I will let you know on the 12th if it is the right one.

Did this ever get resolved? I am having the same issue with my Kessil H380. It seems like it is overheating and turning itself off.

Fan is the Achilles heel of this unit. Wet environment of the sump kills it. The fan on my first 380 died within the warranty period so I got a new one for free. The fan on that one lasted slightly longer than the warranty and then died. Since mine is above the sump and I don't care about aesthetics I just removed the failed fan and hot-met-glued a muffin fan to the end of the light. Works fine again

No response from Kessil. I did end up buying an $8 clip on fan that I attached in the sump and pointed it at the H380 and happy to report that the light has not shut off the past 5 weeks. Eventually I would like to replace the internal fan but will probably wait till I upgrade the tank this fall.



Despite the fan going out, I have been very impressed with how fast this light grows cheato. I thought my prior light (Auqa Gadget MagnaFuge LED Light) did a good job but there is a noticable difference in the density and growth.

@Juskr Funny you mention a clip-on fan to blow onto the unit. I originally had a clip-on fan in my sump that blew in the direction of my H380. I took it offline in the middle of this year and this happens. I reinstalled my fan and pointed it directly onto my Kessil and boom! No more heating issues and the light stays on during the whole photoperiod that it is supposed to. I may look into replacing the fan with the above mentioned computer fan that was linked on Amazon.

I just performed this repair using the amazon light mentioned above and it worked like a charm! I had to splice the original fans female connection onto the new fans (which is not hard to do). I would have had cut the new fans wire either way bc the cord was too long. The new fan is a little bit louder/stronger than stock but if that will help reduce the dust accumulation then I don’t mind one bit.
