I've found a barely used a160 on eBay for a great price including gooseneck.
My current led90 is hitting 270 par at middle top SPS but spread is relatively poor so SPS to side is ok not thriving
Would the a160 be a good light to supplement with for some extra spread?
I know it's not a par monster but it will add a little more par as well.
Also-is the controller worth adding or is manual control/par meter approach on a smart plug an acceptable route?

How deep is your tank? The kessil h80s are also perfectly competent supplemental lights you shouldn’t overlook.
Reefer 170.
Majority of of SPS is around 8 inch from surface

I think an h80 would do just fine for you. You can add the controller if you like, but you can just as easily set it how you want it and run it on a schedule with a cheap smart outlet or power strip.
