I decided to do a KFC bath daily on a torch that is looking really bad and can’t find anywhere online if there is an ideal time of day to do it. Apologies if it’s addressed somewhere else. Is it better to dip when lights are off so the torch gets a full day of light? If there’s no difference I’d probably dip during the day for convenience. Thanks!

I think the coral will be fine with a few hours less light. In nature there are some very cloudy days as well and corals do just fine. Maybe you can place it somewhere bright without direct sunlight hitting the container, then it will still be able to profit from a bit of photosynthesis. It will be in very shallow water during the dip if you are just using some translucent container, so most light will get to it and not be "filtered out" by the water depth.

I think the more important part will be to maintain temperature stable for the duration if it's a dip that lasts hours.

Thank you! For now I’m doing pretty long dips (6-8 hrs) but I put the container right next to my tank so it’s definitely getting some indirect light from the tank. I have a heater and controller in the bath to keep it stable

If you have a light for your sump you could use that as well. Many sumps have an inverted day/night cycle anyway so the light would be free to use in that case.

Even some desk lamp might do the job for a day 😂 It obviously won't offer much usable light for photosynthesis but a little bit is better than nothing. Maybe your coral actually enjoys the break if too much light was an issue 😁
