Hi all,
I have a kole tang in quarantine and im trying different types of foods. He's been in there for almost 2 weeks and he has recently gotten sores on his lips that are really red and swollen. Also white spots on his fins and body around his head ive had copper and a salinity of 1.019 for the entirety of the quarantine. I assumed it wasn't ick but maybe flukes? Any help is appreciated.

Is 2ppm too high? Ive read it could be on the hogh side but i wanted to be sure to kill crypto/velvet
Depends on the type of copper. For chelated copper such as coppersafe and copper power this is fine. For cupramine you would be poisoning the fish quickly.

I am no help on a diagnosis without photos but it could be flukes and an infection it sounds like. We will need some pics to be sure.

With Copper Power 2ppm is fine. I don't think this is flukes, but a picture is definitely needed. I would try to get the picture up as quick as possible too. He might not have a lot of time since it sounds like an infection is setting in pretty quickly.

"Red and swollen sores" sounds very much like an infection, unless the fish has been physically damaged/injured in some way.

You will probably need a broad spectrum antibiotic, such as Kanaplex or Furan-2, to deal with this. Another good option would be Nitrofuracin Green Powder: http://store.nationalfishpharm.com/Nitrofuracin-Green-59584.Item.html

I think I would add either Kanaplex or Furan-2 to the mix. Just be sure to increase oxygen to compensate for mixing meds.

QT didn't cause this infection. That's ridiculous at best. Infections are caused by bacteria invading an opening in the skin and a low immune system. This was probably secondary to another condition such as ick, flukes or a simple injury to the mouth.

You can help him get used to eating nori by rubber banding it to a small rock and placing it in there. It helped mine get used to it and now he eats from a clip like a big boy.

Gram negative bacterial infections are quick & deadly. So sorry for your loss. :(
