I see on the box of the new Koralia Evolution that it can be hooked up to a wave maker. Can up just hook it up to a timer? I have an extra timer. It is the push down kind. I think each peg is 15 mins. Would that work or would that defeat the purpose of a "wave maker"?

Personally, I cannot recommend these to anyone. I've been through 2 x 750 and 4 x 1050, and they don't work as intended on a wavemaker.

When they first came out, there was a "recall" in a sort, and they were sending out replacement pieces so the shaft couldn't slip back into the housing, which would allow the pump to start up backwards and never correct itself. I received 4 of these, and put them on my 750s and 1050s. The pumps continued to start backwards constantly, and a lot of times wouldn't even start all all since they would get caught on the rubber stopper. (I ended up giving them away as I was so frustrated with them)

I did purchase 2 of the 1050s recently, but only since they would be running all the time. However, when I was cleaning my rock the other day, and was using a 1050 to circulate the water in my two tubs, when I switched the pumps on, both of them started backwards. I had to switch off and back on to get going forwards.

These things are garbage, and are the reason I spent the money on Vortechs, as I was sick of messing with powerheads that didn't work as advertised.

This is dead on, i use them for pushing water but cant use them on my RKL with wavemaker on, they run backwards more then forward.

Well this is good go know. I don't want fish being sucked into a powerhead...

Already did that once. FYI maxi jet with ecosystem mod will spin backwards and you Puffer will be stuck to it all puffed up and getting his spines broken. But he will live and that powerhead will end up in the trash.

If you keep them on all the time, they aren't bad, as they are very quiet pumps. Thats the only way I can recommend them, as they are cheaper.

If you can save up for it, get some Vortechs. The Tunze 6025-6045 are good, as well, don't start backwards, but do "click" like crazy when on a timer.

I've tried almost all the powerheads, and Vortechs are by far the best and the least frustrating to use.

My biggest thing with them is they don't have any pop to them. I got some of the 1050's expecting to feel water being pumped out but they are really weak. When power goes out they do not start either as i have to stick something in them to get them going. I prefer the koralia magnum's myself as they are strong, quiet, reliable and have no startup issue's.

Agreed, I was pretty excited when they first came out, and I got some of the first ones that Premium Aquatics got, but it was just a disappointment once I got them.
