Large angels in 120g?

I have a 120g with about 125lbs of live rock in it. Is it too small for a Large Angel like an Emperor? I've always loved that fish but just not sure if I'm providing it enough room as I know they grow to be pretty good size. Thanks!

120 gallon is pushing the limit.
If your angel is a Juvi from the beginning you should be fine for a few years but yes over time it can get to large and you will have to upgrade or part with the fish and find a bigger tank for it.

I would suggest you get a fish more suitable for your size tank, if a large angel consider a Regal, or look into a number of dwarf angels that would be appropriate. Most large angels, i.e. Emporers, Queen's, etc., would require a DT that is twice the size of the one you have now.

An emperor will be too big for a 120. The suggestion of a regal was good, a scribbled would work too.

Others that would work would be Chaetodontoplus caeruleopunctatus, Chaetodontoplus mesoleucus, and Apolemichthys xanthurus. All three max out at about 6 inches and likely around 4-5 in captivity unless bought large.

^^ In addition to the good advice already given, keep in mind these fish can go from small juveniles to 5-6" adults in just a year or two.

Yes, these would be good choices. Although not as colorful, I think the: Lamarck's, Bellus and Watanabei are more reef safe than most of the Centropyge(Dwarf) Angels I've had.
