What about in salt water tanks. Mine always go south on me.There is no 'trick' to growing a mangrove. They are very easy to grow into small trees. I picked up a dozen mangrove propagules off the beach the last time we were out at Sanibel. I put them all in a jar full of tap water and every one of them is sprouting roots 2 weeks later.
in saltwater tanks they are easy to grow. i got some from the beach no roots or anything and put them down in my sump and they have rooted and sprouted leaves. they like to have its base buried into rock work or sand. once you have leaves on them spray the leaves off a few times a week to rinse off sw creep .What about in salt water tanks. Do they have to be in substrate. If so that’s probably why mine don’t do well.
I've probably started 50+ mangrove propagules over the last 10 years. Like cubereefer, I just pick up propagules with no roots at all off the beach and put them in water (tap water or salt water, it makes no difference). They sprout roots and then I put them in some sand or soil (depending on whether they are in my sump or in pots out in our lanai.

They will do better with good lighting, they'll do better under white 6.5k lights than blues. Also they don't do well if you try to acclimate them to saltwater from fresh too quickly. Those are probably the biggest issues people have when new to growing them. But without knowing the specifics it's hard to say why yours didn't do well. What about in salt water tanks.
