I'm kind of perplexed on how all these big tanks look so clear and sometimes I look at my tank and wonder why mine looks like wrasses are constantly digging.

Does anyone do anything special to maintain water clarity?

Possibly but the tank is about 2.5 years old. Seems to be most apparent in the afternoon.

Have you tried carbon. Helps me but mine doesn't look like a sand storm when I need it tho. Maybe posting pictures or video might help.

UV sterilizer is your friend for water clarity. Also a mesh bag filled with carbon dropped in sump is a big / simple / cheap help as well.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
